Timely assessment for earlier action

Our technology empowers organisations to proactively monitor the wellbeing of their communities, identify individuals in need of support, and deliver early, targeted interventions before issues escalate.

Mental health assessment today is fragmented, inefficient, and reactive. Organisations often are unaware until a crisis occurs—a crisis that could have been prevented with early identification and intervention. When assessments are used, organisations face a bewildering choice of questionnaires—many are too long to be practical, while shorter ones often lack accuracy, making them difficult to implement at scale. As a result, identifying those in need—whether in schools, workplaces, or communities—is inconsistent and slow, delaying critical support.

Our approach is different. CAT’s innovative assessment platform provides a simple, one minute assessment of mental wellbeing that can be deployed instantly to hundreds or thousands of users in just a few clicks. Users receive immediate feedback with an easy to understand score and signposting to resources. Organisations benefit from tailored reports to understand the impact of their investment in mental wellbeing and measure improvement.

Our Technology

CAT uses adaptive testing technology to provide a unique approach to mental health assessment.  Traditional methods rely on lengthy questionnaires which are often still scored and interpreted by a trained professional, making them costly and cumbersome to use at scale, outside of the clinic.  Recent attempts to shorten the time to complete has reduced their reliability and repeatability.  All of these approaches deliver results that are difficult to compare between users and difficult to aggregate across organisations.  This leaves leaders with little insight into the mental wellbeing of their community as a whole and unable to tailor wellbeing services and unable to measure their effectiveness.  Action is taken when crises occur.

CAT’s technology is based on a decade of research at the University of Cambridge, with its creators studying the responses of thousands of users to traditional assessment tools. The result is an adaptive testing engine that uses a user’s question response to select following questions to deliver the greatest insight until the required level of precision is achieved. CAT’s assessment typically takes less than 1 minute to complete and delivers a numerical score for straightforward and insightful reporting at an individual and organisational level. It is validated as a registered medical device.

Cambridge Adaptive Testing's technology was created and validated by a team of experts at the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with the Wellcome trust, NIHR, and MRC.
